I have 3 kids enrolled in basketball right now. They are all in different levels of development and it is so cool to see each one of them as they learn and grow.
The youngest is just learning the basics and she can barely reach the net when she shoots, but she is trying so hard and she finds the most enjoyment over the smallest accomplishments. She just loves being out there and having fun.
My son is in the next level of development, they have learned the basics and are starting to learn the finer points of the game, they arent quite ready for competition (they're actually the bad news bears of basketball) but they are a fun group of kids who are coming together as a group and learning that there is no "I" in "TEAM" Which I can tell you is a great virtue to learn.
My oldest daughter, by far the most athletically gifted of the three kids is in the advanced league, they keep score and are quite a good team. And as a biased father I can tell you my daughter can hold her own against any other girl in the league.
The whole basketball thing is also providing a neutral (ish) ground for both sets of us (parents) to come together and not be so uptight and have all of the custody issues hanging thickly in the air because there is too much rooting for great basketball achivements to be done to let that crap creep in.
PS
I hate basketball, with a passion. But I love seeing my kids enjoying basketball with all my heart.

VINDICATION
Well the update is in, the papers are signed and for now at least it seems as if the custody battle has ended or gone into hiatus. We showed up today at court all ready for whatever was in store and when the smoke cleared, my ex agreed to our original proposal. I walked out of court after all was said and done as if the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. I actually danced in the rain and did a pirouette that made Enforcerwife giggle hysterically. I'm feeling pretty ok right now.
Work was ok tonight, pretty uneventful but I'm still riding the high of the day in court.

What your first name means:
Teutonic
Male
Free.
Shakespearean
Male
'King Henry IV, Part 2' Francis Feeble, a country soldier. 'King Henry IV, Part 2' A drawer. 'Much Ado About Nothing' Friar Francis.
Latin
Male
From 'franciscus' meaning Frenchman. Famous bearers: St Francis of Sales who is patron saint of writers, St Francis of Assisi who founded the Franciscan order of friars, navigator Sir Francis Drake, and philosopher Francis Bacon.
Your number is: 7
The characteristics of #7 are: Analysis, understanding, knowledge, awareness, studious, meditating.
The expression or destiny for #7:
Thought, analysis, introspection, and seclusiveness are all characteristics of the expression number 7. The hallmark of the number 7 is a good mind, and especially good at searching out and finding the truth. You are so very capable of analyzing, judging and discriminating, that very little ever escapes your observation and deep understanding. You are the type of person that can really get involved in a search for wisdom or hidden truths, often becoming an authority on whatever it is your are focusing on. This can easily be of a technical or scientific nature, or it may be religious or occult, it matters very little, you pursue knowledge with the same sort of vigor. You can make a very fine teacher, or because of a natural inclination toward the spiritual, you may become deeply emerged in religious affairs or even psychic explorations. You tend to operate on a rather different wavelength, and many of your friends may not really know you very well. The positive aspects of the 7 expression are that you can be a true perfectionist in a very positive sense of the word. You are very logical, and usually employ a quite rational approach to most things you do. You can be so rational at times that you almost seem to lack emotion, and when you are faced with an emotional situation, you may have a bit of a problem coping with it. You have excellent capabilities to study and learn really deep and difficult subjects, and to search for hidden fundamentals. At full maturity you are likely to be a very peaceful and poised individual.
If there is an over supply of the number 7 in your makeup, the negative aspects of the number may be apparent. The chief negative of 7 relates to the limited degree of trust that you may have in people. A tendency to be highly introverted can make you a bit on the self-centered side, certainly very much self-contained . Because of this, you are not very adaptable, and you may tend to be overly critical and intolerant. You really like to work alone, at your own pace and in your own way. You neither show or understand emotions very well.
Your Soul Urge number is: 2
A Soul Urge number of 2 means:
With the Soul Urge number 2, your motivation is centered on friendships, partnerships, and companionship. You want to work with others as a part of a cooperative team. Leadership is not important to you, but making a contribution to the team effort is. You are willing to work hard to achieve a harmonious environment with sensitive, genial people.
In a positive sense, the 2 Soul Urge is sympathetic, extremely concerned and devoted. The nature tends to be very sensitive to others, always tactful and diplomatic. This element in your nature indicates that you are rather emotional. You are persuasive, but in a very quiet way, never forceful. You are the type that makes really close friendships because you are so affectionate and loving.
If this number is over-emphasized in your makeup, you may be over-sensitive, with a delicate ego that is too easily hurt. You may be timid or fearful, too easygoing for your own good.
Your Inner Dream number is: 5
An Inner Dream number of 5 means:
You dream of being totally free and unrestrained by responsibility. You see yourself conversing and mingling with the natives in many nations, living for adventure and life experiences. You imagine what you might accomplished.

DIDN'T YOU USED TO HAVE A MULLETT AND WEAR PARACHUTE PANTS?
Picture this if you will, you are 18 years old, have the whole wide world ahead of you, Bush Sr. is President, Bon Jovi still has a long mane of hair, the brat pack are in their prime, the mullet is the fashion for boys and the teased to the moon high hair is the in 'do for girls, the Russians are still in Afghanistan and DOS is the preferred operating system for those new fangled computers.
I was brought back to those feelings last night at my 20th high school reunion. Let me first say, I had wrestled with wether I was gonna go or not for a few weeks prior to finally making up my mind to go. I made the right decision. There wasn't a huge turnout but there was a lot of people who I had lost contact with over the years and it was so good to see them.
I made arangements with one of the cops I work with and his wife to grab a table and save seats (whoever got there first, they beat us by a few minutes) so that neither couple got banished to the Siberia side of the room. (it was like the football team table in cafateria in the good old days) Our wives hit it off ragging about us to eachother all night. Enforcerwife played guess who Enforcer dated back in the day. She picked out a few but I refused to tell her if she was right or wrong.
I was rememberred more times than I wasn't. I talked with guys and girls who had been there beside me when I was finding out exactly who I was and who I was going to be, I got to talk with my old football buddies we were all a bit chunkier and balder than back in the day and we all showed each other pictures and bragged about our kids. I had a long conversation with the head cheerleader, (without stammering, stuttering, or saying something truly stupid, which was a plus) and it may not have been that long, but it was longer than any conversations I had with her back in high school, but I suspect that may have had a lot to do with the stammering and stuttering thing.
We took a 20 YEARS LATER group photo and it was funny that while we were lining up for it someone ask wether there were any cops working last night. (I actually didn't realize tht there were 6 cops from our graduating class) We have about 180 cops on the force so there was coverage LOL.
As I said before, there wasn't a huge turnout and there were a lot of close friends whom I lost contact with that weren't there and I would have loved to have seen them. But all in all it was a great time. I have to work tonight, but in the meantime I'm gonna crank some old school AC/DC on my IPOD and chill out a bit.

ORNERY OLD MAN HERE
Well, I started off my birthday by oversleeping and waking up late , I had to rush like hell to get to court on time. Usually we as cops have one or two cases at most per day. I ended up having 2 jury trials (where someone elects to be judged by a jury of his peers) and not just a judge (a bench trial) which is preferred by all cops because you dont have to wait through jury selection and charging of the jury which drags on for hours. I then found out when I got there that I had a dangerousness hearing (a court preceeding that is done when the prosecuters wish to hold someone in lockup until their trial) and to add insult to injury I also found out that I had a hearing (someone summonsed in to court to answer for minor charges) So I knew I was in for a long day followed by going home, getting my gear and heading straight to the shift.
I got to work and settled in ok, I am the sector 6 downtown car which is routinely used as a backup car for all other sectors. Well the sector 1 car was tied up on an arrest and they gave the next priority call in his sector to the rookie he advises dispatch over the radio that he's gonna call them on the Nextel. (I know whats coming next.....) Dispatch calls me and dumps the call on me. Ok, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet, and if the rookie had a good reason when he called dispatch then the call is rightfully mine. I get on scene and find out its kinda a bad crash so I call for another car to block off traffic on the other side. Who shows up but the rookie. So I go over and tell him "ok now that your here, it's your call" He looks at me shakes his head and says "no way man dispatch assigned it to you". I later learned that the reason he couldnt field the call was because he was stuck behind cars in a drive through (but he wasn't on dinner break)
I was steaming (and formulating a plan) I found out that dispatch hadn't "assigned" the call yet, so I had them officially assign it to him (in the computer, so it will come back as his call) went about my business getting all the information and handling the call. When the call was over, I went back to the station and put all the info in a packet for the rookie and told dispatch to notify him later that he needed to return to do paperwork.
It worked like a charm, a few minutes after he returned my Nextel went off and he tried to bitch at me for fucking him over. I told him, he tried to fuck me over but I've been on way longer than him and know just a bit more than he does, and I threw in that I knew about the drive through as well. And told him that It isn't in his best interest to try to fuck me over on my birthday.
What started out as a sucky birthday ended up being very satisfying. Am I getting a bit ornery in my old age????

RACING INTO THE WEEKEND ( part three )
After the turbulence of the mid-week shootings and all the bullshit at work I really was hating the world (when I was awake that is) So it was really nice when the Captain pulled me aside after roll call and asked me if I wanted tickets to the local short track race this weekend for me and my family.
My kids were supposed to be with the Enforcer-ex this weekend but suprisingly she let us have them for the race (it may have been because neither she or her husband wanted to take them to see the Simpsons movie as they had promised them) We got to see some awesome local racers put on an awesome show. There were modifieds, supermodifieds, and late model races.
One of the racers was a 17 year old female who ended up finishing in fourth place, but ran in second for most of the race (and if she was more confident in her crossover move) I think she would have either won or at least finished in 2nd or 3rd. She never came off the apron of the track and needs to use more of the racetrack, but she's got game bigtime And my oldest daughter was quite impressed, I think she wants to be a race car driver now.
The kids went to Enforcer-es's early Saturday morning and were back on Sunday night where we rounded out the weekend by going to see the Simpsons movie, it was a great flick and Im glad we got to take them. I think Enforcer Boy wants to be a Simpson now D' Oh

THE ENFORCERWEEKEND
I worked all but Sunday this weekend. Friday nite was awesome, very few calls, decent weather and not much aggrivation. When I returned home at 1am Enforcerwife informed me that she had bought a bed for Enforceryoungest child and we were putting it together. We toiled at it until 5 am when the sun was coming up but we did it, we had accomplished a put it together yourself bed.
You HAVE TO UNDERSTAND..... Enforcerwife and I are diametrically opposite on everything. Shes a democrat- Im republican, Shes a woman- Im a man, Shes crazy- Im sane...... You get the point, So it was a major accomplishment that we got it put together CORRECTLY before sun-up without shots fired.
Saturday was a breeze at work, I worked the front desk ( I get one night inside a week to reconnect with sanity) I got flirted with right off the bat (y'all dont understand what a smile, wink and the word honey does to a middle aged married cop when it comes from a 20 something blonde hotty with a tastefull tattoo and pierced tounge. (But I digress) I got to catch up with paperwork, reading (both blogs and newspapers) and I got to chat with a few of you readers in IM. All without pissing off too many citizens. On the way home I was stopped at a red light when a brawl spilled out from a club right in front of me, they literally spilled out of the club chasing this one asshole and caught him right in front of my truck, they slammed him offa my hood. (werent they suprised when I got out in full uniform with my baton high. I called for backup and we squared away the situation quick.
I get home to find out that enforcerwife had arranged for the kids to sleep at nanas house. Which should have meant boom-chica-Wowow. But nooooooooooo she fell asleep 2 minutes into the movie. But on a positive note, I got the whole bed to myself. (She fell asleep on the couch, Ya snooze, ya Loose)
Its Sunday and I took a road job ( a paid security extra job) at the local pool. Tough job 4 hours of getting sun, checking out bikinis and not having to answer radio calls..... All while getting paid for it.
Not a bad gig if ya can get it huh?
Im tired but well paid and ready to relax. Hope you all had a great weekend.

A TOAST TO ALL OF US WHO SURVIVED AND THRIVED IN THE 1980s
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and
NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendos, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVDs, no surround-sound or CDs, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We w ere given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an expl o sion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WIT H IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them . . CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good . And while you are at it, forward this to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, does n' t it?!

SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO BACK (AT LEAST FOR A VISIT)
Tonight was National Night Out and our neighborhood had its anual NNO BlockParty. It was a blast, I got to hang out and catch up with neighbors who (in this hustle & bustle world we live in) I usually only interact with for a minute or two in passing each week.
A public safety motorcade makes the rounds of all the block parties and everyone gets to check out the shiny fire trucks, squad cars and ambulances. You can take pictures with your favorite cop, firefighter or EMT, sit in the vehicles or hang out and listen to the stories told of days gone by.
I got an extra suprise this year, the ambulance contract for the city is up at the end of the year so all of the area private ambulances took part. I saw some EMT's who used to work in city but have transferred to another company (the one I used to work for, several communities over) It was awesome to see what they were up to.
I lost touch with most of the guys and girls who were EMT's when I was 10+ years ago. One of the EMT's asked if I was going to be at the block party for awhile because her supervisor wanted to talk to me. I said sure and waited for the motorcade to arrive. When it got there I was suprised to see that her supervisor was my old partner who had trained me and taught me alot about being a good EMT and all around person. Our ambulance crew was tight back in the day and we all shared a ton of laughs, tears, trials and tribulations before we all went on our separate paths in life. Me and "Koz" caught eachother up with whats been going on in our lives, Marriges, divorces, careers etc. We asked about other EMT's we worked with (3 have since passed away, 1 has become a writer, 1 a sea captain, a few have remained and have become paramedics and or supervisors at the company) All in all it was an awesome trip down memory lane and for just a brief moment I was young, not so jaded, and happy to soak it all in. It was great to be in the past for a bit but it is always good to come back home when its done.

will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure
to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has

HEY CHARLIE BROWN, I'LL HOLD THE FOOTBALL FOR YOU....
I was on my way back to the station for shift change last night and as I was at the last red light before getting back there I observed a guy driving on a 10 speed coming the opposite way that I was driving. I paid him very little attention because I was just about to go home, but as a cop I'm trained to just be aware of people and surroundings so I had him in my periphreal view. All of a sudden he slams headlong into the raised sidewalk and I swear........
He reminded me of the old Charlie Brown comic when Lucy holds the football.
He kept his grip on the handlebars, kept pedaling furiously, but his bicycle was flying through the air ass over teakettle and I think (this may have been my mind playing tricks on me) but I could have sworn that he did three complete somersaults before hitting the ground.
When he got up and I finally stopped laughing, I composed myself and asked him how he was doing, I realized that he was completely intoxicated and the only thing he was worried about was weather or not he broke his pint bottle that was in his pocket.
I have to give him credit, he knew he was going to get blotto so he left the car at home and took the bicycle. I put the mangled bike in the trunk and gave him a ride home. The way I see it he saved me the trouble of doing an accident report or worse, so I could take pity on him.

THE BASTARD STORY
I was helping Enforcerwife with the laundry the other night and my middle child (Enforcerboy) did something while we were down in the cellar, I let out a laugh and a "you little bastard" under my breath. However it was just loud enough for Enforcerboy to hear.
He asked "what's a bastard?, mom (Enforcer-ex) told me it was a boy without a daddy"
Being trapped by my own mis step but always willing to turn it into a learning experience, I corrected him, letting him know tha it is actually a child born to a woman who was not married when she concieved.
Without missing a beat, Enforcerbaby (my youngest, whom I adopted when she was an infant at the time I married Enforcerwife) pipes up joyfully with "hey that means I'm a bastard!!!!!, because you and mommy weren't married when I was born"
She was so proud of her new title.
I looked at Enforcerwife who was already trying to stiffle hysterical laughter. And as I started laughing, I realized that Enforcer needs to curb his potty mouth.
