You may have noticed my new DECK THE HALLS banner in the sidebar. Those cool ladies over there are doing a Holiday Blog Decorating Contest. And never let it be said that the Enforcer doesn't like a good contest. So I'm in. Any one interested can clink the link on this post or the banner to check it out.

I am more full of Holiday Cheer this year because its the first week in December and I am very close to being all the way done Christmas shopping this year. No last minute head spinning mad dashes to get the last few impossible to shop for people out of the way. And I would like to throw out a personal thanks to the Boston Red Sox for winning the World Championship and thus providing me a platform of souvenier items to pick from for my sports crazed yet impossible to buy for parents this year. You guys rock......

BAHHHHH FREAKING HUMBUG

Last two nights we had the first significant snow fall of this year  and I have to agree with5150's hubby. The first night wasn't so bad, it started late in the shift and it was witches mammary cold so there were very few people out. I was in a sector car and it wasn't that bad. Just hunker down and wait for calls.

 However last night was the heart of the ice storm and I drew dispatch. We were logging between 5-10 accidents an hour for the first 5 hours. It wouldnt have been that bad if there weren't the minimum amount of cars on the road and no 4wheel drive capable units on the road. And if there weren't domestics, gun calls and tow trucks crashing into my sector cars. I seriously think someone should do a study on why people who have driven in snow year after year all freak out and crash (alot) during the first snow fall each year.

But worst of all was the drunk guy who called during the heart of the storm, he was obviously having a melancholy buzz because he called to tell us that he hadn't talked to his mother in over 2 years but it was going on Christmas and he wanted us to help find her, he didn't have an address for her but she used to live in our city and if we could he would like us to track her down and give her his telephone number and have her call him.

LOUD MUSIC BAHHHHHH HUMBUG

So there I was sitting in my cruiser, it was 9:00 PM on a Sunday night. It wasn't overly busy but somewhat steady. I get a call for, get this: Loud music coming from an address located downtown in the business district.

OK, there are a handfull of apartment buildings down there and one rooming house, but the address given struck me as not being near any of them.

It seemed odd, then it got even odder....

Dispatch updates that it's coming from the dentist's office and it is unbearably loud to the caller.

Now I'm sure that this is a prank call and I'm wondering if it is the dispatcher having fun at my expense or if there actually is some nitwit who thinks that the dentist is cranking the tunes at 9pm on a Sunday night.

I make my way leisurely to the address given and whaddaya know? Jokes on me, theres 2 outdoor speakers mounted outside the third floor windows facing the street and I am getting audibly assaulted by .........

DRUMROLL PLEASE...................

CHRISTMAS CAROLS, Ohhhh yeah I rolled up to the crooning of Burl Ives have a holly jolly Christmas at a rediculously high decibel. It was followed by the little drummer boy (the David Bowie version) and Dean "Dino" Martin singing baby it's cold outside. (And it really was cold outside, and rainy, so I really didnt need the weather update)

I advised dispatch that there was no knox box or phone number listed for the dentist or their alarm company, and I stood there, first humming, then singing Christmas Carols in the rain, on a Sunday night, at 9:00 PM, by myself, until dispatch finally tracked down the dentist and got him to respond to the office and turn down the tunes.

He got there, apologized profusely and explained that they had just decorated for Christmas and thought it would be cool to have Carols playing during business hours like in the olden days. Well they set up the stereo to an auto timer and thought it was set to 9:00 am when they open. But in actuality it was set to 9:00 PM and here we were.

I need a loooooong holly jolly vacation!!!!!!!!!!

It's A Deal

Enforcerwife decided to brave the crowds and hunt for sales. She needed a new laptop because the kids spilled liquid candy on her mousepad and has been strugling with it for awhile now. I told her if she wanted one I'd get it for her while they were ridiculously low priced as long as I didn't have to go. So I watched the kids while she made her pilgrimage. While she was out she got me a litle present too. She knows that I love all the new reality and game shows on tv now. My two favorite game shows being Deal or No Deal and Dont Forget The Lyrics and she got me the computer version of deal or no deal. I'm addicted to it....

I'm off to work real soon and I am anticipating that tomorrow is going to be real busy so I wanted to wish all my readers a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving. Have an extra helping of chocolate cream pie for me Ok?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE

Here's hoping everyone had a great Halloween filled with lots of treats and very few tricks. I took the kids out through the neighborhood in the annual beg for candy night. Me and the rookie did the dad thing and made sure they were safe and had all kinds of fun whilst the wives hung out at my place and doled out candy to all the other lil beggars. We ended the night feasting on Chinese food and we gave the rookie and his family 2 cuddly little halloween kittys from our cat Liberty's litter. All in all it was a fun night and I didn't have to work and deal with all the halloween shennanigans......

HOW WAS YOUR CHRISTMAS?

I ended up working both Christmas & Christmas Eve, I had gotten spoiled the last few years because through the luck of the draw I had gotten both of them off, so I was not looking forward to the actual days this year but it actually wasn't that bad. There weren't many calls, no real holiday mahem while I was working. There was one B&E call on Christmas Eve I took that pissed me off (someone broke into a single mother's apartment in the public housing complex and stole Christmas presents) She had 2 kids, one a teenager and one younger one. I checked the crime scene interviewed some of their neighbors and attempted to check one of the kids apartments that they suspected but there was no one home at that apartment. I felt helpless and kinda pissed that all I could do for them was write a report and be off to the next call for service knowing that their Christmas was ruined and there was nothing I could really do for them.

I got home at 2:00 am Christmas Eve, got busy drinking the milk, eating the cookies and at least taking a bite out of the carrots and celery left out for Santa and the reindeer. I laid out all the presents, wrote Santa's letter to the kids and finally got up to bed around 4:15 am, ready for my long winters nap.....

Yeah, nice thought, the EnforcerChildren were up and ready to hack and slash through their presents at 5:30 am. So much for elusive sleep. They had a blast and enjoyed everything and it was great to see (the oldest is now 10 years old) and I'm sure we are on borrowed Santa Time with her so seeing her so into it this year really was awesome. We only got a few hours to play with the new stuff before the 2 oldest had to go to the ex's for their Christmas there. They were back yesterday and we got to play with all the new games and toys.

I got to work a half shift on Christmas Night, and I am now off for the next few days. I'll be going in for the New Year and I am sure I'll have some great new stories then.
